The importance and potential of events

Events are a powerful tool and platform for strengthening attractiveness, sustainable growth, pride, cohesion and trust. Managed well, though, events also create added value and contribute to social, economic, cultural and environmentally sustainable development.

Legacy – the long-lasting positive effects of events

Working with legacy – long-term, lasting and positive effects after the event has ended – is therefore an important part of the City of Stockholm’s event work. By linking events to, for example, inclusion, the joy of movement, young people’s participation, cultural experiences, place activation, association life, labour market measures and new collaborations, temporary initiatives can become part of the city’s long-term development.

The legacy projects presented here showcase how events in Stockholm 2020–2026 have contributed to positive, long-term effects.

Through initiatives such as Hand the Ball, Fler på isen, Fler på läktaren, En sportslig chans, Swiftholm, and Bob Hund på Medborgarplatsen, events have been used as platforms to reach more target groups, create new meeting places, and leave a positive impression on the city, long after the event itself is over.
